Abstract
Self‐diffusion coefficients of oxygen in polycrystalline MgAl2O4 were determined over the temperature range 1310–1694 °C by a gas–solid isotopic exchange technique using 18O as a tracer and the results were compared with those of single crystal MgAl2O4. The apparent diffusion coefficients for the polycrystal were greater than those of the single crystal. These results were interpreted as being due to oxygen diffusion enhanced by grain boundaries. Keywords
