Abstract
A survey of vibration control methods for safety and comfort in large civil structures (LCS) is presented. After reviewing the application of control theory to LCS, the paper discusses a class of vibration suppression algorithms that avoid the major difficulties encountered in the application of modern control techniques to building structural systems. Digital computer simulation studies, electronic analog computer investigations, and experimental tests with several mechanical models of different size and configuration are presented to demonstrate the feasibility, reliability, and robustness of the proposed pulse‐control methods. Keywords
