Abstract
It is shown that the previously reported dual emission properties of biphenylene are most likely caused by an impurity that absorbs around 2800 Å, and emits fluorescence at 3000 Å and phosphorescence at 4100 Å. The first two electronically excited states of biphenylene are discussed briefly in terms of low‐temperature mixed‐crystal studies in polarized light. Keywords
