Abstract
Localities for Chlamys delicatula (Hutton) at Motunau, Tormore, Greta Stream, and Gower River, previously regarded as Waipipian or Mangapanian in age, are all concluded to be of early Nukumaruan (earliest Pleistocene) age. The first Castlecliffian specimen is recorded from Mendip Hills Station, Parnassus. The new age assessments remove all evidence of pre-Nukumaruan C. delicatula in North Canterbury and all evidence of marked molluscan faunal provinces during Waipipian time.
