A Case of Tarantula-Induced Papular Dermatitis1

Abstract
In February of 1974, I had an encounter with a large, as yet undetermined, species of theraphosid spider (or tarantula) while collecting in the forests near Leticia, Amazonas, Colombia. The spider cannot be readily identified beyond placing it in the subfamily Ischnocolinae because of the very incomplete and confused state of theraphosid systematics. I believe my experience with the resultant contact dermatitis is significant to medical entomologists, dermatologists, and systematists working with theraphosids.
