Abstract
A method of paper chromato-graphy employing K iodoplatinate as the reagent is recommended for the detection of S-containing amino acids. The reagent, made by mixing equal vols. of 0.066 [image] KI and 0.0033 [image] H2PtCl6, is diluted 16 to give the best contrast and sensitivity. The completed dry chromatogram is washed in a 1:1 acetone-ether soln., dried at 90[degree]F, and sprayed lightly with the diluted reagent. Except for cysteic acid, the reagent seems to be specific for the S-containing amino acids and is sensitive to the quantities commonly encounter- ed in paper chromatography. Keywords
