Abstract
A discussion of Adam and Gibson (1926) and Bridgman's (1925) results on the compressibility of basaltic glass. Daly revises their estimates of compressibility at high pressure and claims that computed seismic velocities fit his model of a basaltic layer and cast doubt upon the existence of an ultramafic or peridotite mantle. Keywords
