Criteria of readability.

Abstract
"The results of a series of carefully controlled investigations, involving diverse visual variables, reveal that the normal rate of reading is an insensitive indicator of readability as compared with rate of blinking. Furthermore, the appraisals of readability by the two criteria are frequently in disagreement. Whether or not the criterion of involuntary blinking adequately appraises all factors involved in readability, it appears to be far more significant, from both theoretical and experimental viewpoints, than the criterion of rate of reading."
