Abstract
In the immediate post-war period, the government of the United Kingdom took steps to augment the labour force in certain undermanned industries by sponsoring the immigration of a number of displaced persons from the Continent of Europe. In this paper the author describes the background and working of some of these schemes, and indicates the reaction of British workers, and of the displaced persons themselves to this planned migration. Keywords
