Light Microscopic Study of Gastrointestinal and Skin Capillaries in Diabetes Mellitus

Abstract
Peroral biopsy specimens from gastric or intestinal mucosa and skin biopsies from 18 diabetics with late vascular complications were studied. In 6 of the 10 patients examined, capillaropathy in the skin was found, whereas in all cases the mucosa capillaries were found to be normal. The capillaries in skin biopsies from 18 non-diabetic patients and jejunal biopsies from 9 nondiabetic patients were found to be normal.
