Tracer study of the kinetics of dissolution of lead sulphate

Abstract
The kinetics of dissolution of lead sulphate have been studied over the temperature range 10–35°C and over a range of stirring speeds. At low temperatures and with low stirring rates, up to 32 % of the dissolution followed first-order kinetics and was diffusion controlled. At higher stirring rates and/or temperatures, second-order kinetics were followed and diffusion control was not observed. The energy of activation for the first-order process was 19.3±0.3 kJ mol–1 and for the second-order process 10.0±0.3 kJ mol–1.
