A simplified quenching fluoroimmunoassay for gentamicin and the effects of some potential interfering factors

Abstract
The simplification of a previously reported non-separation fluoroimmunoassay for gentamicin is described. The improved assay has adequate precision and specificity for clinical application and correlates well with other methods for gentamicin determination. Some potential interfering factors were studied. Bilirubin in jaundiced samples caused inaccuracy but could be removed before assay by co-precipitation with protein by trichloroacetic acid. Haemolysis or lipaemia gave clinically negligible interference at levels likely to be encountered in routine practice.
