Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to review established relationships between stress and flow problems. Two‐dimensional plane stress systems were found to have features analogous to non‐viscous potential flow fields on one hand, and to viscous flow on the other hand. Accordingly, this discussion is divided into two parts. In each case the fluid is assumed to be continuous, homogeneous, and incompressible.
