Abstract
A constant feature at autopsy in cases of tuberculous meningitis is a gelatinous exudate at the base of the brain. Since the spinal fluid in tuberculous meningitis frequently forms a web of fibrin, it is presumed that the exudate results from the deposition of fibrin which is later converted to fibrous tissue. Streptococcal fibrinolysin can dissolve fibrin clots. The introduction of streptococcal fibrinolysin together with streptomycin in cases of tuberculous meningitis is proposed. A method for the prepn. of suitable fibrinolysin is given. On injn. of this substance into the spinal canal in normal people there was a rise in cerebrospinal fluid cell count. No account of the effect of this treatment on the progress of the tuberculous meningitis is given. Keywords
