Abstract
According to the bipolar seesaw hypothesis, climate warming in Greenland was accompanied by simultaneous climate cooling in Antarctica, and vice versa, during the rapid climatic changes of the last deglaciation. Morgan et al. have found, however, that at least one cooling episode in Antartica preceded Greenland warming by 500 years. In his Perspective, Stocker discusses the implications of these results for the bipolar seesaw hypothesis.
