Triple Fractures of the Mandible With Flaring Rami: Their Treatment With Lingual Splints

Abstract
A reinforced lingual acrylic splint is used to correct the lateral displacement of the rami of the mandible in fractures involving both condyles as well as the symphysis. Dental impressions and plaster casts are made, and the cast of the mandible is cut at the fractured symphysis, articulated with the maxillary cast, and replastered. A reinforced acrylic splint is then made on the corrected mandibular model. When this is wired to the teeth, it corrects the lateral flare and does not interfere with intermaxillary wiring. No other technique corrects this fracture as easily and as well.
