Abstract
Summary: The scanning electron microscope has proved to be an effective tool in the study of dolomitization. The electron micrographs obtained show the presence of moats, or porosity zones, around the dolomite crystals. These are believed to have resulted from the dissolution of calcite at random points, so providing the necessary carbonate ions for the growth of dolomite crystals. The role of clay minerals in dolomitization was investigated and proved to have no influence either on the dolomitization sites or on the local supply of magnesium for dolomitization. Different types of dolomitization porosity are discussed. Keywords
