Abstract
The cutting itction of nylon yarn delustred with various pigments has been studied using a microscope to measure the wear sears produced in metal foils. The effects of the following were studied: yarn tension, yarn angle, yarn speed, the amount and type of deluslrant, the particle size of the delustrant, the nature and thickness of the specimen and the direction of the yarn. Friction at the cutting surface was measured and it was found that, under the conditions of the experiment, wear and friction have little relationship with one another. A model of the abrading yarn surface is proposed and discussed.
