Abstract
This study, which tests the inter-rater and intra-rater reliability of a new measure of functional ability, is based on data from the third Copenhagen City Heart Study. The inter-rater reliability study comprised 64 persons, and the intra-rater reliability study 54 persons (age: 65+ years). Self-reported functional ability was measured by mobility, Physical and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (PADL and IADL) in the categories of tiredness, reduced speed, and need of help. The findings from the study reveal a high degree of reliability in both inter-rater and intra-rater results in functional ability items and scales, with highest agreement in both studies in questions related to dependency. In order to strengthen the reliability even more it is recommended that the wording of some questions be changed, and that interviewers be carefully trained when using this questionnaire. Keywords
