Abstract
Equilibrum electrical conductivity measurements have been made on single crystalline LiNbO3 as a function of temperature, 900 to 1100°C, oxygen partial pressure, 10−7-≥PO2≥105 Pa (10−12 to 1 atm), and Li/Nb ratio. Samples having the congruent composition (48.6 mole % Li2O) were used, as well as those equilibrated at the Li2O-deficient phase boundary (48.3 mole % at 1000°C, 47.7 mole % at 1085°C), and the Li2O-rich phase boundary (assumed to be ∼50 mole %). As previously reported, for PO2−5 atm) the conductivity was proportional to PO2 −1/4; the pressure dependence decreased at higher PO2, approaching PO2-independence. In contradiction with earlier work, the conductivity increased for all PO2 with increasing Li2O deficiency, the increased electronic conductivity being approximately linear with the Li2O deficiency. Keywords
