Abstract
Detailed genetic analysis of the nitrogen fixation (nif) genes of Klebsiella pneumoniae shows that the ability to fix N2 and regulate the synthesis of an active nitrogenase involves a very complex process. Mutant strains of other N2-fixing bacteria, such as Azotobacter vinelandii and Rhizobium, may be useful for agricultural applications. Keywords
