Abstract
A new technique for the supervision and synchronisation of Viterbi decoders, using the novel concept of the pseudo-syndrome, is presented. This technique is applicable with slight additional complexity, whatever the coding rate, to all decoders which contain the function of search for the maximum likelihood path. Simulation results are presented in the particular case of a K = 7 encoder/decoder for different rates. Keywords
