Abstract
In performing surge tests on electrical power apparatus to determine ability to withstanding lightning or switching surges, the shape of the impulse voltage wave should be approximately the same as 1 of the 3 test wave shapes commonly in use. Methods of producing a wave shape having the prescribed time constants are described in this paper, and oscillograms are presented which show the correctness of calculated design characteristics of the generator for producing these surges. Keywords
