Abstract
The crystal structure of the phase Al2O3 · 2 P2O5 · 9 H2O contains two different structural units: isolated PO4 tetrahedra and larger aggregates consisting of two AlO6 octahedra connected with three PO4 tetrahedra by common vertices. Location of hydrogen positions failed. Interpretation of bond distances and molecular symmetry leads to a structural formula [Al2(H1+xPO4)3(H2O)6](H3-3xPO4); 0 ≦ x ≦ 1 indicating proton disorder. Proton conductivity seems to be possible.
