Abstract
A US International Health Service Corps to place American health professionals in developing countries is under consideration. The various options for such a corps are examined in light of past attempts, present needs, and future potential. Justifications, costs, benefits, administrative/legislative mechanisms, and alternative ways to meet US international health goals are evaluated. We conclude that there are more feasible ways to meet US international health objectives than through a governmental International Health Service Corps. (JAMA1987;257:2622-2625)Keywords
