Total Splenopancreatectomy in the Rat

Abstract
The techniques of total pancreatectomy previously described in the rat, separated the pancreatic lobules from their vascular and biliary connections. The technique described is an en bloc resection of the spleen, the pancreas, and the intrapancreatic common bile duct. The common bile duct is reimplanted in the duodenum by intubation, as described previously in liver transplants. This technique, performed in 12 rats, realised a more complete pancreatectomy than techniques described previously.
