The Effect of X-Radiation on the Lens of the Embryo and the Adult Hen

Abstract
X-Irradiation of the chick embryo or of the eye of the young hen does not lead to lens opacity. The immediate radiation damage to the bird lens appears histologically to be the same as that in the mammalian lens, but it is suggested that the damaged cells are lysed from the bird lens whereas they remain in perpetuity in the lens of the mammal.
