Effects of Epinephrine, Nor-Epinephrine and Khellin on Circulation Through Isolated Perfused Hearts

Abstract
The effects of epinephrine (suprarenin bitartrate) and nor-epinephrine (levophed bitartrate monohydrate) and also the effects of khellin, on the circulation through the isolated hearts of rabbits, guinea pigs and dogs were observed. Injns. of similar doses of epinephrine and nor-epinephrine produced, when given in succession to the same heart, identical effects ? on the circulation of the perfused hearts of the 3 spp. Both increases and decreases of coronary flow were observed following injns. of either drug into the hearts of rabbits. If a given heart showed increased flow following an injn. of one of the drugs, it did the same for the next drug and vice versa. Invariably there were marked acceleration and increased force of contraction following the injn. of either drug whether there was an increase or a decrease of flow through the heart. In appropriate doses khellin caused a decided augmentation in the circulation of the perfused heart.
