Abstract
As early as 1844 von Rokitansky1noted the rarity of tubercles in the hypophysis. Both Anderson2and Scott and Graves3(in a review of the literature to 1933) found no recorded cases of tuberculoma of the hypophysis in the literature. Certain authors4failed to mention the existence of tuberculous involvement of this endocrine gland, while others5concurred in the opinion that it was rare. Garland and Armitage,6in examining 3,533 brains post mortem, found that only 2 of 89 intracranial tuberculomas involved the sella turcica. Falta7mentioned that von Frankl-Hochwart found 7 instances of a tubercle in 97 cases of tumor of the hypophysis without acromegaly. Houssay8stated that "circumscribed tuberculous lesions affecting the pituitary as well as metastatic lesions from distant foci and invasion from neighboring tissues have been described," and listed twenty-one references to the literature. Simonds9was able to collect records of 28 instancesThis publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
