NITROFURANTOIN PNEUMONIA

Abstract
Nitrofurantoin pneumonia occurs in suseptible individuals following the administration of nitrofurantoin, usually during the course of a genitourinary infection. The clinical findings may mimic bacterial pneumonia, myocardial infarction, pulmonary infarction, or congestive heart failure. The roentgenographic features include bilateral basilar interstitial infiltrates, which are frequently associated with pleural effusion. Withdrawal of nitrofurantoin is therapeutic.
