Abstract
Putnam and his co-workers1were the first to call attention to the importance of local circulatory disturbances caused by venous obstruction, and they demonstrated clearly its significance in cases of disseminated sclerosis. Putnam has approached the subject from many different avenues and has established important data extending far beyond the problem of pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis. It is surprising how few histopathologic studies concerning the alterations of the venous circulation in the brain are available. Several aspects of the morphologic characteristics of venous thrombosis and its pathogenesis remain obscure. One needs particularly to know more of the early stage of the pathologic process. It is the purpose of this presentation to report observations in a series of cases in which thrombosis was confined to the smaller veins and capillaries and to discuss the pathogenesis of the lesions. Special attention will be paid to the earliest manifestation of the pathologicThis publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
