Abstract
Influence of a single i.p. injection of dextran sulfate on radiosensitivity of mice was investigated. The administration of dextran sulfate 24, 48 and 72 h prior to irradiation increased formation of endogenous colonies of the hemopoietic tissue on the surface of the spleen. DRF [dose reduction factor] calculated from an equieffective exposure for 5 colonies was 1.96 when dextran sulfate was administered 24 h before irradiation and 2.25 when dextran sulfate was administered 72 h before irradiation. The radioprotective effects of dextran sulfate were manifested in the survival of animals exposed to lethal doses of short-term as well as long-terme .gamma. radiation. This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
