EFFECTS OF TEMPERATURE ON ETHYLENE EVOLUTION FROM ETHEPHON

Abstract
The initial quantity of ethylene released from ethephon applied to tomato fruits and plants was directly related to temperature. Increases in temperature initially increase ethylene evolution but this response was followed in turn by a depression in production. Greater efficiency was obtained with application of ethephon to tomato foliage as opposed to application to the fruit.
