All-optical polarisation switch with long low-birefringence fibre

Abstract

Nonlinear polarisation switching of picosecond pulses from the linear polarisation eigenstates of a 200 m-long low-birefringence spun fibre is reported. The relatively low switching peak power of 20 W is promising for applications to all-optical processing and intensity discrimination of ultra-short pulses.
