Abstract
Long-term, continuous follow-up of hyperactive children under treatment was instituted with the use of a monthly, quantified teachers student rating scale and the insertion of a placebo month per year. All subjects receiving medication had previously been shown to be benefited by stimulants. After two years of follow-up with 42 subjects, 26% were able to function well without drugs; 40% were still benefited by medication. Physicians treating such children should periodically try drug-free periods during the school year. (JAMA229:316-317, 1974)Keywords
