Abstract

Research by Case Associates Inc. shows that between 50 to 70 percent of a software engineer's time is spent making changes to mission-critical software. Hence, the tool with the greatest potential impact on the software organization is no longer the development tool, it is the maintenance and enhancement tool. The paper considers the challenges of software maintenance and the selection of CASE tools
