Abstract
Summary: Dendryphiella salina has membrane potentials of around −250 mV. Inhibition of respiration produced large, rapid and reversible depolarizations, which suggests the presence of an electrogenic pump. The Ca2+‐calmodulin inhibitor trifluoperazine in the micromolar range reversibly depolarized the membrane potential and irreversibly (or only slowly reversibly) decreased membrane conductance. Trifluoperazine inhibited hyphal extension but did not alter branching, although branching was stimulated at the hyphal tips following removal of the inhibitor.
