Abstract
The techniques for capturing aquatic insects, the pupae of which ascend to the surface to hatch there, fall into 2 groups a floating trap which collects the imagines, and a submerged trap which collects the pupae while rising towards the surface. The pupae hatch in a glass jar, which forms part of the apparatus, and where the imagines, pupal exuviae, and a few larval skins collect. A modification of the latter type is described as cheap, simple, durable, quickly tended, robust and capable of resisting wave action for long periods. Attempts to minimize sources of error are described. Possible uses of the trap are indicated and an example is given. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
