The lowest triplet state in ammonia and methylamine detected by electron-impact excitation

Abstract
Near-threshold electron-impact excitation of ammonia and methylamine have been explored in a trapped-electron spectrometer. The lowest triplet state in each molecule lies ca. 0.4 eV below the singlet à state, consistent with the accepted Rydberg description of the à state.
