Abstract
Small numbers of virulent tubercle bacilli cause tuberculosis in mice even when mixed with large numbers of BCG organisms. In mice, it is possible to distinguish, using histopathologic methods, infections caused by viru-lent mycobacteria and infections due to BCG. Tuberculosis in mice, induced by intravenous injection of tubercle bacilli, is predominantly a disease of lungs. The pulmonary lesions are necrotizing and exudative after an interval of 8 weeks. Such lesions are not observed in animals inoculated with BCG alone. Response of the lungs to inoculation of BCG is of a purely pro-liferative nature. Keywords
