Abstract
Three single micromachined fibre optic silicon sensing units are combined to form an impact sensor. The relative signal arrival times are used to localise an impact and the output optical signal varies directly as impact magnitude. 0.5 mJ impact energy is detected and 30 mm impact location accuracy is achieved over a 1.4 × 1.2 m3 area. Keywords
