THE EXCRETION OF SULFATES BY THE DOG

Abstract
In dogs the urinary clearance of sulfate at the normal conc. of sulfate in the plasma is about 8% of the creatinine clearance. The ratio of sulfate clearance to creatinine clearance increases with increased rate of urinary secretion. Most, if not all, of the sulfate in the serum of dogs is filtrable through collodion membranes. After intraven. inj. of sulfate its clearance rises markedly and at very high conc. of sulfate in the plasma the clearance approaches that of creatinine. Apparently the conc. of the sulfate in the glomerular filtrate is equal to that in the plasma, while the tubules reabsorb approximately a constant amt. of sulfate per unit vol. of filtrate.
