Abstract
This paper gives the results of an investigation into the awareness of a sample of university students and pre‐university students of environmental issues and their causes related to energy consumption. A questionnaire was used with a total of 267 respondents. The most significant conclusions to be taken from this research were that: the knowledge of those in the sample about environmental matters is superficial; their awareness of the environmental consequences of their everyday behaviour is low; the media sensitizes public opinion, but does not increase the degree of understanding of environmental issues. Keywords
