Abstract
A troublesome question in the design of systematic sampling is the choice of the number of random starts. A small number leads to an un-acceptaiily low precision of the estimated error of estimate, but a larger number may increase the error of estimate too much. Two simple modifications of the sampling scheme are discussed which may help in this dilemmaKeywords
