Introduction Although ocular symptoms and signs in established leukemias have been reported in the literature from time to time and are well known, they have been rare as presenting manifestations, and previously they have not been described in this specific leukemia. The purpose of this paper is to discuss briefly the involvement of the eye in leukemias and lymphomas and to report a case of leukemic reticuloendotheliosis with ocular symptoms as the first manifestation of the disease. The patient was an infant, brought to consultation because of heterochromia iridis. In the literature were found three cases of leukemia which began with ocular complaints. Reese and Guy1are credited with the first, in 1933. They described a patient with exophthalmos and protrusion of the bulbar conjunctiva as presenting symptoms of leukemia.
