Records of Dracunculus insignis (Leidy, 1858) from Raccoons in Florida

Abstract

The guinea worm, Dracunculus insignis, is reported from raccoons collected in Alachua and Osceola Counties, Florida, in 1955 and 1959. These records are apparently the first of this parasite from Florida and the southeastern United States in general. Previous North American records of D. insignis in wild carnivores are listed.
