Abstract
Summary This review is concerned with the analysis of movements directed towards a visual target. Recent data from animal psychology, from neuro-physiology, and from studies on newborns are briefly reviewed. The emphasis is on temporal and spatio-temporal analysis of the different components of this activity, in adults and in children. We try to demonstrate both important functional components, motor programming and visual control, which emerge from this analysis in adults, and how this model could be applied to developmental studies in children.
