Abstract
During the past 2 yrs. in the Mediterranean area, several microorganisms were encountered which differed serologically from known Shigella strains. Biochem. and serol. studies are described which show that the group of 34 cultures reported upon composed S. paradysenteriae type which is serologically homogeneous and serologically unrelated to any other Shigella type. The serotype is referred to as S. paradysenteriae, Lavington I.Keywords
