Abstract
Using a gray‐gas quasi‐equilibrium theory to describe the radiation effects, the basic integro‐differential equation for the one‐dimensional flow of a radiating gas is reduced to a nonlinear differential equation by approximating to the radiation absorption functions. The integral curves show that compression waves with velocity profiles having continuous first and second derivatives can exist in the absence of other dissipative mechanisms (radiation‐resisted shocks) and approximate analytical solutions for these profiles are constructed.Keywords
