Abstract
An equal dose of promazine was administered to fifteen patients shordy before delivery; five were given the drug intravenously (total solute 5–6 ml), five intramuscularly, and in five it was given over 15–25 minutes by infusion (in 250 ml fluid). The concentration of promazine (and two of its three major metabolites) in the urine passed by the infants during the 48 hours subsequent to delivery has been assayed. The total amount of promazine and metabolites passed by the male infants (thirteen cases) has been calculated. The results suggest that a significantly greater proportion of the amount of promazine received by the mother is passed to the foetus after administration in concentrated form intravenously than after intramuscular administration. Keywords
